PJ What’ll Jess Be aka “Jess” 7 years old 16 HH
Sire: Crimson Jess Dam: Reys A Lil Doll
Jess is looking for the perfect partner to finish him up and go to winning. He has everything it takes to take you to the pay window every time.
The breeding on the sire’s side really explains itself. Crimson Jess has sired many proven barrel horses. The dam is a mare my family raised. “Lil” has proven herself as a producer of really nice minded, smooth moving, trainable, barrel racing money earners.
This is the third colt I have ridden out of this mare and have enjoyed success on all them. Her mother “Tiny Bar Doll” was with our family for most of her life. She proved herself as a barrel horse and head horse. Making many amateur rodeo finals, before becoming a brood mare herself. “Jess” is a beautiful, smooth moving horse. With a kind personality and is very willing. He is a “best friend” type of horse.
If I had to choose a way to describe him, I would say imagine “Ferdinand The Bull”. Big, strong, capable of great things, and also very gentle and kind. “Jess” came to me last July and I have been riding him ever since. He has an extremely light feel in his mouth, and works his best when you use a combination of leg pressure and light pressure on the bridle. I started hauling him last summer and entered him in his first jackpots over the winter. We went until everything shut down in March 2020. Jess has made a handful of competition runs and we have started going again. He made his first run again in June 2020. Jess is an easy ride. He stays very relaxed and knows his job.
Jess is not a “finished” barrel horse, he does need more seasoning and requires some guidance during a run. Not a chuck it at him and run kind of horse. He will do his best when he his allowed to see the arena prior to running, and have a look around without any pressure. Jess is big strided, but he can gather himself up quick and also has explosive speed. The perfect combo, if you want to win 😉 He rides out on his own, and is truly a pleasure to be around.
My family prides ourselves on multi use (working cattle and roping) horses. However, Jess excels the most in the arena or just going out for a ride. Jess is shod all around, teeth are done, vaccinated and de wormed. I have put a lot of time and care into this horse. I have no issue keeping him until the perfect match shows up for him. Jess will be hauled and ran until he’s sold.
