The National High School Rodeo Finals that were held in Gillette, Wyoming over the course of last week came to an end on Saturday evening. There were a lot of fast times and high scores posted in the short go making it an exciting performance to watch.
Here’s a brief recap of how the Canadians made out in the short go:
In the barrel racing, Gaileen Babcock of Fort St. John, BC posted a total time of 22.479 to place her 16th out of the top 20 who made it back to the short go. Gaileen also placed 16th overall in the average for the barrel racing.
In the breakaway roping, Taylor Smith out of Rimbey, AB placed 10th in the short go with a time of 4.15 seconds. This time put Taylor in 11th position in the average.
In the goat tying, Tess Manning of Belmont, MB placed 12th out of the top 20 who made it back to the short go. Tess tied her goat in a time of 10.59 seconds, this placed her in the 13th spot of the average. Sarah Wright of Langley, BC placed right behind Tess in the short go in 13th spot with her time of 11.09 seconds. Sarah ended up placing 9th in the average.
In the steer wrestling, Stephen Culling of Fort St. John, BC ended up 5th in the short go with a time of 5.68 seconds. Levi Lloyd who is from Rimbey, AB ended up 12th with a time of 7.2 seconds. Eric Dwyer of Walton, ON placed 15th in the short go with his time of 8.16 seconds and Kal Klovansky of Qu’Appelle, SK ended up 17th with 10.66 seconds. Overall in the average Stephen ended up 3rd, Levi 10th, Eric 16th and Kal 17th.
In the pole bending, Shayle McLeod of Monte Creek, BC ended up 8th in the short go with a time of 20.295, this put her in 11th spot overall in the average.
In the tie-down roping, Ryan Jasper of Williams Lake, BC placed 10th in the short go with a time of 14.65, this placed him 11th in the average.
In the girls cutting, Tamara Davies of Rocky Mountain House, AB ended up splitting 7th three ways in the short go with a score of 210. Hailey Stewart of High River, AB placed 16th in the short go with her score of 202. In the average Tamara ended up 14th and Hailey ended up 18th.
No Canadians made the top 20 short go in bull riding, team roping, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding and boys cutting.
Another huge congratulations goes out to the new 2011-2012 NHSRA Queen, Miss Alberta – Dakota Passey. What a great accomplishment!
