The inaugural Delburne Barrel Bonanza was a great success by the reports we’ve been hearing.
Winning the futurity and the open race was Kirsty White and her home grown mare Special Tack (Racy). At the time of breeding, Kirsty only owned the dam (Cutters Brass Tack) but now also owns the sire Plain Special with her fiancé Jeremy Harden. They brought Plain Special back to Canada to their Big Valley, AB operation (JKH Quarter Horses) this spring.
Kirsty was only able to compete on Racy’s dam Cheetah, a limited amount before a fracture ended her barrel racing career. During that time she did pick up a pro cheque in Armstrong before being retired to being a broodmare.
Cheetah gets the credit for Racy’s quick moves and being a real forward mover. Kirsty describes Racy as being a very ambitious mare with a lot of confidence. Kirsty feels that Racy’s sire Plain Special put the undeniable speed in Racy as well as her intelligence. Kirsty stated without question that Racy is the most intelligent horse she has ever ridden in her training career.
Check out Kirsty’s winning run of 13.067:
