Recently we had the chance to talk to the Ladies Barrel Racing winner of the 2011 CCA (Canadian Cowboys Association)/CRA (Chinook Rodeo Association) Rodeo in Unity, SK. Steffanie Mather and her horse Bucky ran a time of 17.66 seconds to take home the first place cheque. Mather also placed second at the CCA/CRA rodeo in Kindersley, SK this past weekend. Here’s what Steffanie had to tell us:
-What is the name of your horse? Siksikas Buck aka Bucky
-How old is your horse? Bucky is 11 this year.
-How long have you been running barrels on him? I started him on barrels four years ago and this will be his third summer on the rodeo trail.
-What kind of saddle do you use? A Talmadge and Mike Green
-What kind of pad do you use? An Impact Gel pad
-What kind of bit do you use in him? I run him in two different bits, indoors I use a 3 piece shank gag and outside I use a 3 piece slide bit with a nose band. Both of these bits are hand made by Dave Elliot.
-Are there any special shoes you use? What kind? My horse is shoed with just plain rims.
-What type of feed do you feed your horse? I feed alfalfa grass mix hay with whole oats and TizWhiz. I also supplement with Silver Lining Herbs.
Steffanie would like to thank Lambert Trucking out of Medicine Hat, AB for sponsoring her on the rodeo trail this year!
