I had the chance to talk with Dannielle Dinius recently about her horse Legacy. Dannielle and Legacy just won the average in the ladies barrel racing at the 2011 Mankota CCA/CRA/MRCA Rodeo this past weekend (May 27-28). Dinius also placed 2nd in the long go. Here’s what she had to say about Legacy:
-What is the name of your horse? Flight Wave aka Legacy
-How old is your horse? Legacy was born April 24, 2004 (7)
-How long have you been running barrels on her? I started loping the pattern at jackpots when she was 4. When she was 5 I started asking her for more speed and even ran her at about 5 CCA rodeos.
-What kind of saddle do you use? I usually run her in a Charmayne James saddle made by Cactus.
-What kind of pad do you use? A navajo pad
-What kind of bit do you use in her? The bit I run her in is a short shank twisted wire by Molly Powell. The bits I use at home or just to ride around at rodeos are Dave Elliot bits.
-Are there any special shoes you use? What kind? My farrier is Gus Vaile and he puts rims on her front feet and little slide plates on her back to help her get her butt under her on hard ground, or ground with no give.
-What type of feed do you feed her? I feed her whole oats with beat pulp to keep her weight up. When we rodeo I also give her the Hoffman’s Horse Ration along with Sho Flow and Immunize and OxyMax by Oxygen to help keep weight on, and keep her running hard. The immunize I am using is to help keep this Equine Herpes Virus from affecting her if we were ever to come into contact with it; it helps build her immune system.
-What is your exercise routine? The exercise routine at home I do is lots of long trotting and hills trotting up and walking down.
