Speculation is high as RDNewsNow.com broke the announcement that “The Red Deer and District Chamber of Commerce and Westerner Park have scheduled a “major announcement” for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Enmax Centrium.”
*Congratulations the city of Red Deer, the Westerner Park and the CPRA on their new venture in Red Deer, AB. It’s official!
The fact that the Chamber and Westerner have put in a proposal to host the homeless CFR for 10 years starting in 2018 is a good indication of the pending announcement. Saskatoon, SK was the only other city to have submitted a proposal as I understand.
Red Deer’s earlier proposal suggested the 45th edition of the Canadian Finals Rodeo would run before the Agri-Trade event which is slated to run Wed-Fri November 7-9 th. Since we’re already speculating that would possibly have the CFR start the week prior. November 1st is a Thursday (just sayin’).
Here’s a look at the inside of the Westerner, a venue much smaller than where the event was held for 44 years. We can expect a sold out crowd in Red Deer. A smaller city, hotel rooms may be at a premium. Visitors may also stay in surrounding towns like Ponoka, Lacombe and Innisfail. Red Deer is only a 1 hr 45 minute drive from Calgary and about the same from Edmonton.
If you are looking to book a room on speculation (on not holding me accountable for guessing the wrong dates), the first week and weekend in November makes sense according to the suggested dates in earlier proposals. If you’re not the betting kind you can do your research ahead and book after the official news breaks on Tuesday at 5:30 pm MST. Here’s hoping you get booked before the prices increase 😉
*Edited to confirm the dates have been set for October 30th to November 4th, 2018!*
Here’s a look at over 40 hotels available in Red Deer and area (no affiliation). Prices range from $60 to $200 with You might also check out airbnb.ca for vacation rentals in the area. I see some room rentals in shared homes starting at just $30 as well as entire homes available starting at just $90.
