The Daines Ranch Rodeo near Innisfail, Alberta was the place to be June 14th-17th. Barrel Racers from North and South of the border came to win a piece of the pie. Carlee Pierce from Stephenville Texas took home the $10,481.00 first place paycheck and added it to her WPRA standings to take over the lead in the world standings.
Carlee was gracious enough to take the time out of her travel schedule to answer some questions for us. Below, you will be able to watch a video of the complete final round. Katy Lucas was in attendance to put this video together for us.
-What is the name of the horse you ran?
Rare Dillion

I’ve owned and ran him for a little over a year

He was trained by Anessa Self
-What is your training and riding style with your horse?
Free running with rate. I push him past each barrel and let him finish on his own.
-What is it you like best about him?
He has the biggest heart. He is my best friend.
-You won the rodeo, but did they feel like a “winning run”?
My run didn’t feel as fast as usual, but we are still trying to figure out the dirt up here. I was very happy to know I won first at such a great rodeo.
-How do you prepare for your runs (warm up etc.)?
I don’t warm up a bunch. I trot and lope straight lines and then let him pick at grass until my run.

Cactus Barrel Racer
-What kind of pad do you use?
Cactus pads
-What kind of bit do you use?
Jim Warner Hackamore
-Are there any specific goals you have set for yourself and your horse this season?
Our goal is to go to the Canadian Finals Rodeo and WNFR and win.
-What lead you to be a barrel racer?
My mom was a barrel racer and she passed that addiction on to me.
-If you were to share a training/rodeo tip what would it be?
Stay focused and always strive to be the best you can be. You are only as good as your competition so push to run against the best. Always give all the glory to God, without God nothing is possible.
