Busy Weekend and Upcoming Week for CPRA Contestants

by Shayna on June 24, 2011

This weekend and continuing on into next week is pretty busy for the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) Contestants.  Between now until July 3rd there is a total of 6 rodeos taking place across Alberta.  Wainwright and High River, AB started their rodeos off yesterday (June 23rd) and will continue until Sunday (June 26th).  Sundre, AB will kick off their first rodeo performance tonight (June 24th) and will also continue on until Sunday.  Next week, starting on Monday (June 27th) until July 3rd contestants will be heading to Ponoka, AB for their 75th Annual Pro Rodeo Stampede.  Airdrie, AB will start Wednesday the 28th and go until July 2nd and Williams Lake, BC will start up next Thursday, June 30th and go till July 3rd.  It’s like the Canadian version of the “Cowboy Christmas”!

The Canadian Cowboys Assocation (CCA) only has two rodeos taking place this weekend.  Contestants will be making a stop at Moose Jaw, SK today (June 24th) till Sunday (June 26th) and another stop in Humboldt on Saturday and Sunday (June 25th and 26th).  Contestants should be happier this weekend that they get to travel to both rodeos as last weekend the rodeo in Radville, SK was cancelled due to all the water.

In the Wildrose Rodeo Association, there are three rodeos happening that are all approved with the Lakeland Rodeo Association.  These rodeos include Lamont, Fairview and Manning, Alberta.  The Lakeland Rodeo Association also has a Finals Tour taking place in Hinton, AB.

The Junior High School Rodeo contestants who headed to Gallup, New Mexico for the National Finals have their first evening performance this Sunday (June 26th).  You can go to the NHSRA website here to follow the daily results.  We can only bet the Canadian contestants who went down are enjoying the change to the dry and hot weather!

Hopefully the weather will cooperate for all of these rodeos this weekend and coming week, and all the contestants can rope, ride and run in some dry arenas!

Here’s a quote to start the weekend off:

“The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur.” – Vince Lombardi
