This weekend, like most in the summer is a busy one for rodeos. In the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) there are three pro rodeos taking place throughout Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Maple Creek, SK held it’s first performance on Thursday, July 20th and will wrap up today, July 22nd. Morris, MB is also hosting a pro rodeo which started yesterday, July 21st and will carry on until Sunday, July 24th. The final pro rodeo that is on this weekend is in Kennedy, SK which is taking place Saturday and Sunday (July 23rd and 24th).
In the Wildrose Rodeo Association (WRA), rodeos in Fairview, AB and Mayerthorpe, AB had to be cancelled. They do however still have rodeos taking place in Lamont and Manning this weekend which are both dual approved with the Lakeland Rodeo Association (LRA). The LRA also has a Finals Tour Rodeo taking place in Hinton, AB.
In the Canadian Cowboys Association (CCA) contestants will be travelling to Elbow and Shaunavon, SK to compete. Elbow rodeo takes place Friday through Sunday while Shaunavon takes place Saturday and Sunday.
There are also lots of barrel racing and team roping jackpots as well as some clinics taking place in these next couple of weekends. Be sure to check out the Calendar on RodeoClassifieds.com for a list of jackpots and clinics.
The National High School Rodeo Finals taking place in Gillette, Wyoming will wrap up this weekend with a short go taking place on the evening of Saturday, July 23rd. The top 20 contestants in each event will make it back to the short go at their chance of winning the championship. Here’s a quick look at our fellow Canadian contestants who are currently sitting in the top 20 as of last night’s performance (July 21st):
Carlee Jo Edge of Cochrane, AB is right on the bubble in 20th position for the barrel racing. She has a total time of35.979 on two runs while McKale Hadley of Plain City, Utah is currently leading the barrel racing with her average time of 34.491 seconds.
There are no Canadians sitting in the top 20 of the breakaway roping as of last night’s performance, Brandi Hollenbeck of Hutchinson, Kansas is currently leading the breakaway with a time of4.88 seconds.
As of Thursday evening’s performance there are currently two Canadians sitting in the top 20 of the goat tying, Tess Manning of Belmont, MB and Kipty Watt of Claresholme, AB are sitting in 7th and 10th positions with their times of 19.52 and 20.52. Baili Collins of Leedey, Oklahoma is leading the goats so far with a time of 17.42.
In the bull riding, Colton Manuel of 150 Mile House, BC is currently in a four way tie for 17th position with a score of 74 points. Tyler Bingham of Honeyville, Utah is currently leading the bull riding with his average score of 158 points.
Kal Klovansky of Qu’Appelle, SK is currently sitting in seventh spot in the steer wrestling with his time of 12.09. Eric Dwyer of Walton, ON is sitting in tenth position so far with his time of 13.35 seconds. Josh Denison of Iowa, La is currently leading the steer wrestling average with his time of 11.15 seconds.
There is currently only one Canadian in the top 20 in the pole bending as of last night’s performance, Shayle McLeod of Monte Creek, BC sees herself in 12th position with her time of 41.758. Heather Hassler of Texas is currently leading pole bending average with a time of 40.179.
There is also only one Canadian currently sitting in the top 20 in the tie-down roping. Chance Jackson from Sedley, SK is currently sitting in 17th position with his time of 30.91. Arkansas cowboy, Seth Driggers is currently leading the average with a time of 20.75 seconds.
As of Thursday evening’s performance there currently are no Canadians sitting in the top 20 in the team roping. Jesse Harville and Will Woodfin of Texas are currently leading the team roping average with a time of 13.71.
Buck Moen of Elrose, SK is currently sitting in 17th position in the bareback riding with a score of 109 points. Neil Williams, III from Mills, Wyo. is currently leading the bareback riding with a score of 140.
In the saddle bronc riding, Canadians Ricky Warren, Clay Elliott (both from BC) and Dillon Barkshire from Delburne, AB are sitting in 8th, 12th and 18th positions so far with their scores of 74, 68 and 64 points. There is currently a tie for first in the average between Garrett Smith of Idaho and Justyn Trujillo of Nevada with their 138 points.
Tamara Davies of Rocky Mtn House, AB and Keely Steinman of Red Deer, AB are currently both sitting in the top 20 in the girls cutting. Tamara has 419.5 points and Keely has 415 points. The cutting average is being led with 433 points.
There are currently no Canadians in the top 20 average of the boys cutting, Dalton Davis of Kansas is leading with a score of 438.5.
